MORRIS PLAINS, NEW JERSEY — Multiple downed trees outside the Veterans of Foreign Wars post in Morris Plains reflected the damage left by the July 3rd storm, which tore through Morris County with powerful winds, fallen power lines, and widespread outages across Morris County ahead of America's 250th planned celebrations.
According to the Borough of Morris Plains, a substation behind the tower's train station went offline early ahead of the Fourth of July weekend, leaving most or all of the borough without power. Public work crews cleared multiple downed trees overnight, while trees that involved power lines remained in place because of safety concerns.
Nearly 50,000 Morris County customers lost power during the storm as crews worked to clear blocked roadways and restore electricity amid the scorching temperatures and humidity. In Morris Plains, uprooted trees and scattered branches left visible damage around the VFW post and nearby streets.
